Although it is important to pre-teach vocabulary that students might encounter in a text, deeper learning of a new word is achieved through exploring more than just the definition or a single context. Participants in this session will learn how to use the Frayer Model to bring together a set of words related to a concept their elementary students are studying.
Learner Outcomes:
- Describe how revisiting vocabulary after reading assists with deeper learning of words and concepts
- Identify the kinds of vocabulary words that are appropriate for studying with a Frayer Model
- Learn the steps of implementing effective vocabulary instruction after reading a passage
